New regulations for shipments to the United States

Since 2006, shipments worth less than $800 have been exempt from duties and taxes. In July 2025, the U.S. administration issued an executive order that ends this exemption as of August 29, 2025. After that date, all shipments to the United States and U.S. territories (Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa) will be inspected by U.S. Customs and taxed, starting from the first dollar of merchandise declared.

What's changing as of August 25, 2025

Following La Poste's announcement, Delivengo services to the United States will no longer be available via Boxtal as of August 25, 2025.

What's not changing after August 25, 2025

The following carriers will continue to deliver to the United States and remain available via Boxtal: Chronopost, DHL, FedEx, UPS, and Sodexi.

What's changing as of August 29, 2025

All shipments to the United States, regardless of their value, will require a full customs declaration, with duties and taxes potentially applied from the first dollar. This measure is part of the IEEPA regulation, strengthening import controls. For more information, also visit the customs website.

Duties and taxes must be paid by the recipient according to the DAP incoterm available on Boxtal. Currently, Boxtal does not offer the DDP incoterm, which allows the sender to avoid paying duties and taxes in place of the recipient.

Boxtal partners who continue to ship to the United States have taken the necessary measures to address the consequences of the new US regulations. However, delivery delays are to be expected due to the increased volume of shipments clearing US customs.

Best Practices

  1. Inform your recipients that they will have to pay duties and taxes
An email from the carrier will be sent to them with the payment link.
If the recipient refuses to pay, you must pay them instead.
  2. Adjust delivery times
If you are an e-commerce company, indicate longer delivery times on your website to avoid complaints.
  3. Pay attention to your customs documents
To avoid having your shipments held up in customs or returned, include on your commercial invoice:
    • A detailed description of the items (in English): nature, composition, use.
    • Importer tax ID number if your recipient is a professional.
    • MID code (Manufacturers Identification code) to identify the manufacturer.
