How to manage notifications to your customers?

As part of their e-commerce order, your customers can receive three types of notifications:

  • Notifications from your e-commerce platform.
  • Notifications from the carrier.
  • Notifications from Boxtal.

Here are the differences between them and how to manage them effectively.

Notifications from your e-commerce platform

Depending on the platform you sell your products on, some notifications already exist:

  • Order confirmation email.
  • Email indicating that the order has been shipped.
  • ...

These notifications arrive directly with your branding and follow an action taken by your customer (their order), so your customer can safely assume that these are not spams or phishing attacks (fraudulent messages aimed at extracting personal information).

Whenever possible, you should prioritize the use of these notifications over the others described below.

Notifications from the carrier

Once your shipment is created in Boxtal, the recipient will receive notifications from the carrier. These aim at ensuring successful delivery.

The channels used (SMS, email) and the number of notifications ("package in transit", "package approaching delivery location", "package available at collection point", etc.) vary depending on the carrier.

Your customer's level of trust in these notifications will be lower than with notifications from your e-commerce platform:

  • Your customer doesn't necessarily know which carrier you used to ship their purchase, nor exactly when you will do so.
  • Like the general population, your customer is likely the target of occasional "fake package" phishing attacks and will therefore naturally be more suspicious.

Notifications from Boxtal

You can enable email delivery to the recipient for all your shipments on Boxtal via your shipping settings.

Your recipient will then receive an email titled "Un envoi de la part de XXX est en chemin" (where XXX is the company name you use for the sender when creating the shipment) when the shipping label is generated. This email will provide them with a tracking link and, if applicable, the chosen destination parcel point. The email will sent from transactional@boxtal.com.

Among the notification types, this is the one your customers will be most wary of because this email is not personalized with your logo, or sent by a contact they already know (your site, the carrier). We therefore recommend that you rely on this type of notification only if you have no other option.
