Configuring parcel point map display for Shopify
PrerequisiteThe parcel point map is configurable for all Shopify plans:
- Basic, Grow and Advanced plans - parcel point selection takes place on the thank you page.
- Plus plan - parcel point selection takes place during checkout.
Before you begin
⚠️ Boxtal does not use the same parcel points as Shopify's Shipping to pickup points feature. Parcel points chosen by your customers using this option cannot be retrieved by Boxtal.
For Boxtal to retrieve your customers' parcel point choices, you must configure the parcel point map as described below.
We advise against keeping Shopify's Shipping to pickup points option enabled at the same time as the map offered by Boxtal, as this can make the checkout experience confusing for your customers and could impact your orders and deliveries.
To check if this option is enabled in your Shopify admin panel, go to Settings, then Shipping and delivery, then Additional delivery methods, and click Pickup points. If the option is enabled for one of your locations, you can disable it by clicking on that location, then in Location status, disabling the option, and saving.
Enabling the parcel point map in the theme editor
Go to the theme editor from your Shopify backoffice by navigating to Sales Channels > Online Store, then clicking on Edit theme on your current theme.
Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans
Use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to switch the displayed page, then select Checkout and customer accounts.
From the page selector, select the Thank you page.
In the left-hand Sections menu, under the Main section, select Add block, then enable the Points de retrait block from the Boxtal app. The block will then appear in the preview. You can Save your changes by clicking the button in the top-right corner.
From the drop-down menu, now select the Order status page.
In the left-hand Sections menu, under the Main section, select Add block, then enable the Points de retrait block from the Boxtal app. The block will then appear in the preview. You can Save your changes by clicking the button in the top-right corner.
The parcel point map will then appear on the Thank you page, and the Order status page will display your customer's selected parcel point.
Plus plan
Change the displayed page via the drop-down menu at the top of the page, and select Checkout and customer accounts.
From the drop-down menu, select the Checkout page.
In the left-hand Sections menu, in the Main section, choose Add block, and activate the Points de retrait (Shopify Plus) block of the Boxtal application. The block will then appear in the preview. We recommend activating the Automatically expand sections to show app option so that shipping method details are displayed automatically. Otherwise, customers who are already logged in may be redirected to a simplified checkout where the default selected parcel point is hidden. You can Save your changes by clicking on the button in the top-right corner.
Using the page selector, select Thank you.
In the left-hand Sections menu, under the Main section, select Add block, and enable the Points de retrait (Shopify Plus) block from the Boxtal app. The block will then appear in the preview. You can Save your changes by clicking the button in the top-right corner.
Using the page selector, select the Order status page.
In the left-hand Sections menu, under the Main section, select Add block, and enable the Points de retrait (Shopify Plus) block from the Boxtal app. The block will then appear in the preview. You can Save your changes by clicking the button in the top-right corner.
The parcel point map will then be displayed during checkout, and your customer's selected parcel point will be shown on the Order status page.
Displaying parcel point information on the Shopify admin order page
From your Shopify admin homepage, select an order.
On the order page, in the Blocks section, click + Block and add the Selected parcel point block.
You can pin the block so that it is automatically displayed on all your orders.
Configuring your shipping methods
Shipping methods must be configured directly in your Shopify store.
Go to Settings, Shipping and delivery section.
In the Delivery customizations block, click Add delivery customization. Select Parcel point map.
For each shipping rate, you can decide which parcel point point network(s) to display (see our article on the parcel point network repository for more information).
Shipping services may be available only in certain countries. Make sure not to offer a parcel point delivery option for a country that is not supported by the selected carrier.
Known problems
The current implementation does not work with Shopify's split shipping feature. In this case, checkout requires customers to select two shipping methods, which is not compatible with the current implementation. You can configure this option in the Shipping block of the Shipping and delivery section of the Settings of your shop.
